The Story
Demon Slayer is set in a fictionalized version of the Taisho era, so there's no such thing as a real filming location — but it turns out there's still a surprising amount to visit.
First up: Kamado Shrine in Dazaifu, a real shrine that shares its name exactly with Tanjiro's surname. It was already well known, but became a full-blown pilgrimage site for fans worldwide once the series took off.
The Mugen Train was the biggest surprise — that black steam engine actually has a real-world counterpart. The C62-class locomotive 'Shigosai' on display at the Kyoto Railway Museum is widely cited as its likely model.
But there's a separate steam train the animation studio is actually known to have referenced: the Paleo Express on Saitama's Chichibu Railway. Fans apparently call it 'the real Mugen Train.'
As for the Infinity Castle's interior, the Okawaso Ryokan in Kinosaki Onsen, Hyogo, comes up a lot — people compare its lavish, maze-like corridors to Muzan's chambers and the castle's other rooms.

All of this is inferred, of course, since the setting is a fictionalized version of history — nothing's officially confirmed as 'the' real spot.
Thinking back on the story itself, though, I get why it's loved this much. It starts with Tanjiro, who sells charcoal to support his family, coming home to find they've all been slaughtered by a demon while he was away.
The one survivor, his sister Nezuko, has been turned into a demon herself — but strangely, she never attacks him. Tanjiro joins the Demon Slayer Corps both to find a way to turn her back and to avenge his family.
Meeting strong-willed companions like Zenitsu and Inosuke, he faces a serious demon for the first time on Mount Natagumo, then witnesses the death of Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku aboard the Mugen Train — people say that one scene alone is what made the film such a massive hit.
In the Entertainment District arc, he fights an Upper Rank demon alongside Sound Hashira Tengen Uzui, and after the Swordsmith Village arc and brutal Hashira training, the Corps' collective strength keeps building.

It all leads to the final arc: the full Corps against Muzan in the Infinity Castle — the climax of a fight that's been building for nearly a hundred years.
What makes the ending interesting is that it's not just 'they beat the demon.' The bond that's carried across that century actually continues into the present day. I'd recommend seeing for yourself how Tanjiro and his friends close out that long fight, and what shape that bond takes in the modern era.
Serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2016 to 2020, the manga has sold over 150 million copies. The Mugen Train film became Japan's highest-grossing film ever in 2020 (about ¥40.4 billion) and turned into a genuine cultural phenomenon.
